Tether Secures 8,888 Bitcoin in Q4 2025, Total Reserves Reach $8.42 Billion

Tether has amassed 8,888 Bitcoin, bringing its total reserves to $8.42 billion as of January 1, 2026.

Tether has made significant strides in its Bitcoin accumulation strategy, securing 8,888 Bitcoin during the fourth quarter of 2025. This acquisition was confirmed by CEO Paolo Ardoino on January 1, 2026, marking a crucial milestone for the company as its total Bitcoin reserves now amount to 96,185 BTC, valued at approximately $8.42 billion.

The latest figures indicate that Tether”s Bitcoin holdings rank as the fifth-largest globally. The company”s consistent approach involves allocating 15% of its quarterly profits to Bitcoin purchases, a policy that was initiated in May 2023. According to blockchain monitoring firm Ember CN, Tether”s Bitcoin acquisition for the quarter totaled around 9,850 BTC, with transactions valued at nearly $876 million.

Throughout Q4 2025, Tether executed two major withdrawals from exchange platforms to bolster its reserve address. The first transaction occurred on November 7, 2025, when Tether withdrew 961 BTC from Bitfinex, amounting to approximately $97.18 million at the time. This initial withdrawal was part of Tether”s broader strategy to strengthen its Bitcoin reserves.

The more substantial transfer of 8,888.8 BTC took place on January 1, 2026, valued at $778 million, effectively completing the company”s quarterly purchasing agenda. Tether has maintained a consistent pattern of transferring Bitcoin purchases at the end of each quarter or the first day of the following quarter since its reserve policy began.

Ember CN”s analysis suggests that the average acquisition cost per Bitcoin for Tether stands at around $51,117. With current market valuations significantly higher, Tether is sitting on an unrealized profit of approximately $3.524 billion due to Bitcoin”s price appreciation since the initiation of its acquisition strategy.

This robust accumulation underscores Tether”s commitment to Bitcoin as a critical asset within its treasury strategy, aligning with the growing trend among corporations to hold Bitcoin as a reserve asset. The transparency of Tether”s operations is enhanced by its practice of transferring Bitcoin to publicly observable on-chain addresses, further solidifying its position among major institutional holders within the cryptocurrency space.
