Bitwise Contributes $233,000 to Bitcoin Developers from $2.7B ETF Earnings

Bitwise has donated $233,000 to Bitcoin developers, marking its second annual contribution from ETF profits.

Bitwise Asset Management has made a significant donation of $233,000 to support Bitcoin developers, derived from the profits of its Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB), which currently manages $2.7 billion in assets. This marks the second consecutive year that Bitwise has pledged a portion of its profits to the Bitcoin development community.

The annual donation aligns with Bitwise”s commitment to contribute 10% of its gross profits each year, and this year”s contribution is notably larger than the previous year. The company emphasizes that the donation is directly linked to the performance of the ETF, which has seen substantial growth since its launch in January 2024.

According to Matt Hougan, the Chief Investment Officer of Bitwise, no other Bitcoin ETF has made a similar commitment to donating a portion of its profits to support open-source developers. This initiative has been positively received within the Bitcoin community, with many acknowledging the importance of institutional support for the ongoing development and maintenance of the Bitcoin network.

The $233,000 donation will be distributed among three nonprofit organizations: Brink, OpenSats, and the Human Rights Foundation”s Bitcoin Development Fund. Each of these organizations plays a crucial role in sustaining the Bitcoin ecosystem by providing resources and support for developers who maintain the network”s core code.

Brink offers grants and mentorship to Bitcoin protocol developers, while OpenSats funds contributors working on open-source projects across the Bitcoin landscape. The Human Rights Foundation”s Bitcoin Development Fund is dedicated to advancing Bitcoin as a tool for financial freedom. Together, these organizations are essential in ensuring that Bitcoin remains secure, updated, and resilient.

Bitwise has characterized this donation as a reinvestment into the very ecosystem that makes the BITB ETF viable. The firm highlighted that the success of the ETF and its subsequent donations are made possible by the investors who choose to put their money into BITB. As the ETF continues to grow, so too will the donations, reflecting Bitwise”s long-term commitment to responsible participation in the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Responses from the crypto community have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising Bitwise for its initiative to give back to the developers who are often the unsung heroes of the network.
