The Garden City Public Schools Board of Education convened for a scheduled meeting on February 26, 2026, at the Educational Support Center Board Room, located at 1205 Fleming Street.
During this session, the Board ratified several important measures, including the minutes from the previous meeting held on February 9, 2026. They also approved the Accounts Payable, ensuring that all major accounts are sufficiently funded to meet current financial obligations.
Significant personnel actions for both certified and classified staff were also authorized. Additionally, the Board discussed various curriculum items, notably modifications to high school course names. These changes include renaming the Semester 1 Symphonic Band to Marching Band and Semester 2 Buffalo Band to Wind Ensemble. Other music courses such as Modern Show Choir will now be referred to as Vocal Jazz, while A Cappella will become Chorale and Tenor/Bass Choir will be renamed Buffalo Men.
At the middle school level, course name adjustments were made to better align with Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, changing Family and Consumer Science to Introduction to Family and Consumer Sciences. The Board also introduced new middle school course offerings aimed at introductory CTE education, including Agriculture Explorations 1, Business Essentials, Career and Life Planning, Intro to Health Care, Intro to Skilled Trades, and Intro to Education.
Furthermore, the Board approved the installation of a bell and intercom system at Horace Good Middle School, sourced from INA Alert, with an allocated budget of $238,434.16 for the project.
