A recently disclosed financial report has put U.S. Senator David McCormick under the microscope following a series of substantial investments linked to Bitcoin (BTC). These transactions, which took place in late November 2025, have sparked questions regarding their timing and the possibility of conflicts of interest.
On December 26, McCormick revealed that he had acquired shares of the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB) through multiple trades amounting to as much as $200,000. Notably, two of the more significant transactions, valued between $50,001 and $100,000 each, were executed on November 26 and November 28, but were only disclosed a month later. Additional transactions included a purchase ranging from $15,001 to $50,000 on November 25 and another between $50,001 and $100,000 on November 24, both filed one day later.
The performance of these trades has shown mixed outcomes, with the November 25 transaction achieving a gain of approximately 2.29%, while the November 24 trade incurred a loss of about 0.72%. The scrutiny surrounding these investments is intensified by McCormick”s position on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and the Subcommittee on Digital Assets, which plays a critical role in shaping cryptocurrency regulation.
Given that Bitcoin ETFs are particularly sensitive to regulatory developments, trades conducted by public officials can lead to contentious debates. The timing of McCormick”s investments is particularly notable as they coincide with a period of significant market volatility and regulatory uncertainty.
In addition to his cryptocurrency dealings, McCormick”s December 26 filing also disclosed substantial purchases of municipal bonds earlier in the month. These included investments of up to $250,000 in Ohio State University general revenue bonds and up to $500,000 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania general obligation bonds on December 17. Other transactions revealed up to $250,000 in Pennsylvania state general obligation bonds on December 15 and up to $500,000 in Pennsylvania Turnpike municipal securities on December 10, all with attractive coupon rates nearing 5%.
Overall, these filings depict a concentrated period of high-value investments across both the volatile landscape of digital assets and the more stable municipal bond market, disclosed shortly after Christmas. Importantly, there is currently no public evidence indicating any legal infractions, as such trading activities are permitted under existing regulations.
