The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of the Philippines has announced the relaunch of its online learning platform, SEC Academy, aimed at empowering Filipinos with essential financial knowledge. This upgraded version was introduced on Wednesday, coinciding with the commencement of Investor Protection Week (IPW) 2025.
Accessible at academy.sec.gov.ph, the SEC Academy provides a range of free courses that cover topics including personal finance, responsible investing, entrepreneurship, and how to recognize investment scams and other predatory schemes. SEC Chairperson Francis Lim highlighted the importance of making financial education universally accessible, stating that it is crucial for all Filipinos to have the tools necessary for informed financial decision-making.
The launch event, which took place at the SEC Headquarters in Makati City, attracted a diverse audience including students, young professionals, and members of the armed forces. Lim emphasized that the theme for this year”s Investor Protection Week, “InvestEd Tayo sa Kinabukasang Sigurado,” underscores the idea that genuine financial security is rooted in discipline and integrity.
SEC Academy is designed to enhance the financial literacy of individuals across various demographics, from students to retirees, and aligns with the SEC”s initiative to incorporate financial literacy into the high school curriculum. This is part of a broader effort to ensure that young Filipinos are equipped with the necessary skills to navigate their financial futures.
In recent developments, the SEC has also been active in promoting awareness of cryptocurrencies. They hosted a crypto awareness session and an industry roundtable during the Fintech Forward 2025 event, aiming to educate students about digital finance and foster discussions with stakeholders in the local fintech and cryptocurrency sectors.
Moreover, the SEC is preparing to launch VERITAS, a blockchain-based authentication system designed to secure corporate filings through immutable, cryptographically verified digital signatures. This initiative signifies the SEC”s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance regulatory processes and protect investors.
This revamp of the SEC Academy is a pivotal step towards enhancing financial literacy in the Philippines, reflecting a growing recognition of the need for education in navigating both traditional and digital financial landscapes.
