Kannur, Kerala – Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on January 4 that the state government is set to introduce a range of initiatives aimed at enhancing the security of land transactions through the use of blockchain technology. This move is part of the government”s broader strategy to provide citizens with enhanced services at their doorstep, negating the need for in-person visits to government offices.
During the inauguration of the annual Registration Department Day celebrations, which included an award ceremony for top-performing offices, Vijayan indicated that the application of blockchain will help in eliminating issues related to fake documentation and duplicate registrations. “Several new initiatives are in the pipeline, including plans to use blockchain technology to further secure land transactions,” he stated.
The Chief Minister emphasized that significant reforms have been implemented within the Registration Department, making property registration processes more transparent, efficient, and user-friendly. This department is crucial not only for generating government revenue but also for safeguarding citizens” property rights and ensuring legal security.
Vijayan noted that the Registration Department has become a model of public service, actively working to reduce corruption and enhance citizen interaction. The government has taken steps to minimize the need for repeat office visits and the reliance on middlemen in property registration, which had been common in the past.
In his address, Vijayan reiterated the government”s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and highlighted recent efforts that have made sub-registrar offices more accessible to the public. Kerala”s commitment to progressive reforms serves as a potential example for other states, as the Registration Department adapts to evolving needs.
Additionally, the Chief Minister shared the government”s initiatives to ensure equal access to justice for marginalized communities, including transgender individuals, and to simplify processes such as marriage registration. Online availability of notices under the Special Marriage Act was introduced to enhance transparency.
As Kerala works towards reducing landlessness, the government has also extended stamp duty concessions to economically disadvantaged families for land registration and housing construction. The swift and efficient processing of documents related to the LIFE Mission housing scheme was also commended.
Overall, the Chief Minister portrayed the Registration Department”s role in tax collection as impactful, noting a consistent increase in revenue over the years. The reforms and technological advancements signal Kerala”s commitment to evolving its administrative processes for the benefit of its citizens.
