AML RightSource has announced the formation of an International Advisory Board aimed at reinforcing compliance in the banking, payments, and cryptocurrency markets. This initiative, led by chair Vesna McCreery, extends the firm”s existing advisory framework by incorporating expertise from regions including Europe, Asia-Pacific (APAC), and Australia.
The newly established board is composed of seasoned professionals with extensive backgrounds in combating financial crime and a thorough understanding of digital asset regulations. For instance, Dayna Bordin, who serves as the UK Money Laundering Reporting Officer at GSR, has spearheaded significant transformation projects at numerous leading banks, now channeling her insights into the cryptocurrency industry. Furthermore, Matt Brown, a global expert in sanctions and detection, has modernized anti-money laundering (AML) frameworks at prominent institutions such as RBS, Barclays, and HSBC, with a focus on technology-driven solutions for risk detection.
John Fogarty offers an impressive 35 years of regulatory experience within the APAC region, while Alan Ketley, former Executive Secretary of the Wolfsberg Group, contributes decades of invaluable international AML knowledge. This board is set to enhance AML RightSource”s ability to assist clients in navigating the evolving landscape of regulatory and compliance mandates that impact both traditional finance and the cryptocurrency sector.
Vesna McCreery emphasized the importance of the board”s diverse expertise, stating, “Each member brings unmatched experience in real-world compliance challenges. Their insight will be critical as we expand AML RightSource”s global capabilities and support clients across crypto and banking.” CEO Steve Meirink further noted that the firm”s clientele is grappling with emerging regulations and new types of asset classes, and the advisory board will provide practitioner-led guidance to inform strategies aimed at reducing risk and maintaining compliance in an ever-changing environment.
The International Advisory Board is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping AML RightSource”s growth strategy and service offerings within Europe, the Middle East, Africa (EMEA), and APAC. This initiative comes at a time when the cryptocurrency sector is witnessing a troubling rise in violent crimes such as “wrench attacks,” where individuals are physically assaulted or coerced into surrendering their digital assets, with incidents reported to have increased by over 169%.
