Bitcoin has been experiencing a period of stagnation, hovering around the $90,500 mark as it concludes another week in a tight trading range between $90,000 and $91,000. This lack of significant movement has been mirrored across most larger-cap altcoins, though a few have managed to post notable gains over the past 24 hours, specifically XMR and RAIN.
After entering 2026 on a controversial note, Bitcoin demonstrated a quick resurgence, breaking through the $90,000 barrier just two days into the new year. Despite geopolitical issues involving the US and Venezuela, BTC maintained its position above this critical level throughout last weekend. Following a robust performance on Monday and Tuesday, where it peaked just under $95,000, Bitcoin faced a natural correction after a rapid $7,000 increase within days.
In a swift move, the price dipped below $89,500 within 36 hours but rebounded effectively, settling back over $90,000 by Friday. Since then, BTC has experienced minimal fluctuations, demonstrating a market capitalization of $1.810 trillion and holding a dominance of just under 57% over altcoins.
Examining the weekly performance of various cryptocurrencies, RAIN and XMR stand out as the only significant gainers in the last 24 hours. Both have achieved double-digit increases, with XMR reaching $493 and RAIN climbing to $0.009. Meanwhile, POL has emerged as a standout performer this week, soaring by 44% to $0.17. Other tokens like SUI and TAO have also registered impressive gains.
On the downside, several cryptocurrencies have faced declines, with ZEC and CC experiencing double-digit drops. Additional altcoins such as DOGE, MNT, UNI, and HBAR have also seen notable losses. Overall, the total cryptocurrency market cap remains steady at approximately $3.180 trillion, reflecting little change from the previous day.
As the weekend approaches, market participants will be keenly observing whether Bitcoin can break out of its current range and what implications this will have for the broader crypto landscape.
