Franklin Templeton has taken a significant step towards launching its Solana ETF by filing a Form 8-A with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This filing is crucial as it clears the final regulatory hurdle required for the ETF”s debut, with expectations that trading could commence shortly, potentially as soon as the next trading day. The ETF will trade on NYSE Arca under the ticker symbol SOEZ.
The newly proposed Solana ETF will track the CF Benchmarks Solana Index, thus providing investors with direct exposure to the market price of Solana (SOL) tokens. Unlike traditional investment vehicles, this fund will hold actual SOL tokens, offering a structure akin to conventional commodity ETFs. The fund has a management fee set at 0.19%, and notably, all sponsor fees will be waived for the first $5 billion in assets until May 2026.
This move into the Solana space follows Franklin Templeton”s recent success with its XRP spot ETF, marking a continued expansion into the digital asset market. By embracing Solana, the firm underscores the growing institutional interest in altcoin investments beyond the dominant Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The introduction of the Solana ETF serves as a gateway for traditional investors to gain exposure to the altcoin without the inherent complexities associated with cryptocurrency wallets or private keys. As interest in alternative cryptocurrencies rises, Franklin Templeton”s latest initiative bolsters the perception of Solana as a legitimate investment opportunity.
The SEC”s recent approval of guidelines for commodity-based cryptocurrency ETFs has facilitated a surge in similar offerings by various asset managers. Notably, Bitwise Asset Management launched the first U.S. spot ETF for Solana in late October 2025, followed closely by Fidelity and VanEck in mid-November. The successful inflows into these funds, even amid market volatility, reflect a growing appetite for Solana-related investment products.
The approval of the Solana ETF not only reinforces institutional adoption but also simplifies access to one of the leading altcoins in the cryptocurrency landscape. As the market evolves, Franklin Templeton”s strategic entry into this segment signifies a broader trend towards regulated investment opportunities in the digital asset realm.
